Cover Of Brand r Magazine's First Edition

Here is the civer to our first edition.

BARISTA SHOWDOWN

Every once in a while we are invited to experience out of the ordinary events.
Colombo has been the most reliable in terms of impressing and satisfying us.
They did it again this friday, this time it was a Barrista show down.

We were in the presence of people who saw a cappuccino as more than a
product for consumption, but an artform to be appreciated in the process of its creation.
Here are the a few pictures from the event.

A group of coffee shops like Vida Cafe,  Woolworths, Bean Green, Colombo and Durant Cafe brought their A game for this show down.

Thanda Kunene

This is one of those big ups moments. We'd like to introduce you to our resident Photographer. The fashion designer, music collecting, image loving Thanda Kunene, but you can call him Thanda the Curator.

The Curator

He has been a great deal of help to us. Introducing us to new music and ideas we originally overlooked. Plus he never really says nop to covering an event. Since he isn't mus\ch of a fan of telling people about himself you should follow his blogs: iamflake & noneisforever

Fork, Knife & Glass - Dinner Club

For those not in the know. In our silence (Which we greatly apologise for) we have been on the look out for the most refreshing activities that Durban could offer us. .One such event we are proud to present as a Brand r sister project Piloted by Russel Hlongwane is the Fork, Knife & Glass - Dinner Club hosted by Russel Hlongwane.
Every first wednesday of the month we meet at a selected restaurant to dine and relax with a group of like minded people. A breath of fresh air from the over flooding idea that everyone needs loud music, excessive alcohol intake to have fun.
Here are the pictures to the first two sessions we've attended.

SOUTH AFRICA MUSIC - ''FOOD FOR YOUR SENSES – THE MANELIS EXPERIENCE''

It’s taken me a few minutes to find the right words to explain exactly what I want to relay to you. I still haven’t found the words and the clocks ticking so I am just going to let my fingers step on the keyboard with hope that I will articulate my thoughts.

FOOD FOR YOUR SENSES – THE MANELIS EXPERIENCE

Manelisi Mzwandile Ntsele should replace the definition of both the words – sacrifice and pure art! Dude is frontman of the experimental music band Luminati (NO NOT ILLUMINATI).

The band is a mash up of genres such as rock, hip hop, reggae with traces of jazz and traditional music. Before Luminati, Manelisi flew solo and dropped the timeless piece of art called ‘’Sitshengise’’. Personally, people still haven’t really caught on to his last offering and now he’s officially zoning out of this realm with his upcoming experience. When I say ‘’upcoming experience’’ I actually mean his upcoming show. It’s rather unfair to use colloquial terms to describe what Manelisi offers in his music. So he’s not putting up a show, he’s taking you on a experience.

The Food For Your Senses will feature a few supporting acts that will form part of the experience. The show is some form of music time travel from mid 80’s to current day mindset. Encompassing gumboot dance, poetry, canvass art and crossover of the music from a digital realm to a live band.
The supporting acts are; BFG (hip hop); Tumelo (poetry); Dirty Paraffin (new age kwaito); Philani Luthuli (visual art); Gumboot dancers and Luminati (multi genre experimentalist band).

Venue – Comfort Zone (In Clearmont)
Damage – R40 (underpriced if you ask me)
Date – 31 July - Sunday
Time – 12pm

Till next time, it's been emotional.

A 21 year old fashion design student who grew up in USA then Botswana and currently studying in Durban at Linea Fashion Academy.

A slave to her passion and assertive in her endeavors, she asked Brand –r to help her host a Red Carpet Retro Fashion Show and Garment Auction.

Beautiful women, well groomed squires, fashion, drinks, food and Jessica Khupe filled the KZNSA Gallery space.

A firm thank you note to the brands that participated such as; Christian Dior, Mercedes Benz, Darkchild modeling agency, Mr Van (the slickest MC out there), Durban Dance International, KZNSA Gallery, Arts Cafe, Mr and Mrs Vandiar, Isupport Music Business (for the sound) and lastly Jessica for her creation of high end stunning dresses.
